Mardi Gras...

Since Emma and Dave moved to the New Orleans area, mom and I decided we should go down for Mardi Gras. We all arrived Friday night and went out in search of local food for dinner. After running into about 3 closed restaurants, we try one more and ran into a parade. Little did Dad, John, Dave and I know that we were with the most intense bead catchers on the planet. Strangers were running away in fear of being knocked over by one of them. That night, I caught a bag of beads to save Daddy's life. Who knew I could catch?? That was the biggest shock. We got home and woke up stinkin early to get a good spot. Mom bought E, me and her matching t-shirts to wear. We looked so cute! We watched the parade and Dave stayed for the next one. He found a "loose" girl to stand behind and ended up bringing home a ton of beads. As we left the parade, it started storming. We decided to weather the storm at Mahoney's and enjoy a poboy. After a long day, then a quick nap, we ate a low key dinner and woke up to have beignets and we all left... Family weekend #2 was a blast!!! I hated to drive home. Looking forward to the next family fun weekend!!

Girlie.

You know, sometimes it just stinks being a girl. One minute you are the happiest person on the planet, the next you're weeping for no reason. I don't get it. Sometimes, it's not so bad. Some days, it's just bad. Like today. One little note in the mail sent me to a weepy mess.
I'm also girlie in other ways. I like to be clean and neat and organized and clothes somewhat matching and such. I like things done for me, like pumping my gas. But I'll get dirty with the best of them. I am a hard worker. A girlie hard worker who laughs while crying.
There ya go. Whatev.

Blue Suede 2011

My wonderful daddy was the chairperson for the Blue Suede event that benefits child abuse in Jackson, TN. None of us like to miss a party, so everyone packed up and headed north. I was the first to arrive. Daddy had picked up our favorite BBQ and brought it to Grandma Rose's. Everyone else arrived a little later. Saturday morning, we all woke up and got moving. The girls went shopping and I'm not really sure what the boys did. We all went to Grandma's for lunch--- her famous meatloaf was on the menu! After lunch, John and I went for a run. Then it was time to get ready for the main event and load up and head to the Civic Center. We arrived on time and hopped right into the party!

What's the BIG DEAL!?!?!?!

So recently every little detail and big decision is this huge ordeal. Big ordeal? Yeah like I would love to poke someone's eyeballs out at some points. Some days I feel like I'm involved in the production of a musical or this crazy important broadway play or huge event like the Superbowl or the Oscars where everything from the set to the costumes to the actors or players to the donuts on the snack table or the food in the concession stand. I mean everything. Even trying not to let those little battles get to me or make me crazy or allow myself to over-react, is a battle. Today I am believing it is the devil attempting to make me stumble in my decision to make better wiser choices. Well, I've got some words for him... Back off. I will continue to win in my choice making and I will come out of 2011 a better wiser person because of it. You know why? Because God is on my side! I know He is holding my hand during each one of these battles and He's not letting go. Job 23.10-11 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold. My feet have closely followed his steps; I have kept to his way without turning aside.

On another note, here's a preview of what's up next.

The Golden Rule

Do unto others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6.31.

That's our memory verse for Portico Kiddos. You know thinking about that, it is simple, but so very hard. Why do people feel that the same standards they hold measure other people's actions to don't apply to them? I don't appreciate being treated disrespectfully or rudely. And I know you don't either. So why in the world have we trained ourselves that it is ok to be ugly to others? I honestly don't have a clue. I will be conscience of my actions though. That's for sure.

Watch Out.

Watch OUT!
So many or not so many years ago, I was asked to attend the youth camp for our church as a leader. I learned so much about myself and about God that week. David Uth our pastor and amazing teacher was the teacher of the week. The whole week's events revolved around this one particular work EXCUSIA, meaning AUTHORITY. So what does that mean? Well it means that God is our Ultimate Authority. He has placed governing bodies in our lives to provide laws, rules and policies that we must follow. This includes our parents, teachers, bosses, city/parish/state officials, country officials and our president.
Romans 13:1-7 ESV
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience.

Hebrews 13:17 ESV
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Romans 13:1 ESV
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

These verses clearly state that God has placed governing authorities in our lives to keep us on track to follow Him. Regardless of whether we like it or not, agree with it or not, or think it applies to us or not, WE STILL ARE INSTRUCTED TO FOLLOW THE LAWS AND RULES.
What if some people chose not to follow traffic laws and ran stop signs and red lights and drove over the speed limit or all over the road? There would be all kinds of accidents harming people. This happened to me. A boy chose to run a stop sign. It has been a miserable journey, but definitely a learning journey. It actually almost happened today. A man chose to go straight when the his light was red and the turn light was green. I almost took him out.
What if kids decided to do as they please and not listen to adults? They would grow up disrespectful, unruly citizens, if they survived their childhood.
What if I went to work and chose not to do my job, but did what I wanted to do? What if I didn't follow the company rules? I wouldn't have a job, bottom line.

This all goes back to my word of the year- CHOICE. The CHOICES we make to respect and obey authority, will affect our lives and most definitely others. I hope that through my example of CHOOSING to respect and obey our earthly authority, they'll see our Ultimate Authority shine through. Even though it may be so hard to follow the laws, we must follow the Ultimate Authority by doing as the governing authorities have told us.

Lead Me.
I look around and see my wonderful life
Almost perfect from the outside
In picture frames I see my beautiful wife
Always smiling
But on the inside, I can hear her saying

"Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can't
Don't leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, what about us?

Show me you're willing to fight
That I'm still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone."

I see their faces, look in their innocent eyes
They're just children from the outside
I'm working hard, I tell myself they'll be fine
They're independent
But on the inside, I can hear them saying

"Lead me with strong hands
Stand up when I can't
Don't leave me hungry for love
Chasing dreams, what about us?

Show me you're willing to fight
That I'm still the love of your life
I know we call this our home
But I still feel alone."

So Father, give me the strength
To be everything I am called to be
Oh, Father, show me the way
To lead them
Won't you lead me?

To lead them with strong hands
To stand up when they can't
Don't want to leave them hungry for love
Chasing dreams that I could give up

I'll show them I'm willing to fight
And give them the best of my life
So we can call this out home
Lead me, 'cause I can't do this alone

Father, lead me, 'cause I can't do this alone

Choices. Choices. Choices.

It has been 2011 for 31, almost 32, days already. I decided I would take my time in choosing what word I wanted to claim as my own and watch God work through me. Last year my word was WILL.

Let's recap---
1. I WILL save money, buy a car and maybe a house this year---- I bought my first home in May of 2010. I am in the process of purchasing my car. ----God is GOOD!
2. I WILL run in 2010 without pain ---- One week ago today, I ran 1 mile, without stopping, without pain.--- God is GOOD!!
3. I WILL keep my apartment clean. ---- um I don't have that apartment anymore, but my house stays guest ready. Drop in at any time, it's clean! I am able to clean the house without pain and without being in pain so much that I don't have to overlook the mess.---- God is GOOD!!!
4. I WILL (try) to keep my car clean. ---- Well, it's not spotless, but you can ride in it without moving too much! ---- God is GOOD!!!
5. I WILL do Bible Study/Devotions/Readings more and more consistently.---- Our church has a reading plan, yep, I've kept up! ---- God is GOOD!!!
6. I WILL have a splendid, wonderful, fantastic, exciting, happy year and no one, I mean NO ONE, will stop me! ----2010 is going down as a happy year! Even though there were many struggles, it was so happy!! ---- God is GOOD!!!

So, in 2010 I learned so much about God's goodness and faithfulness! Read more on MY WILL.

In 2011, my word of the year is CHOICE. Luckily, I live in the good ole USA and we have the freedom to CHOICE. Every day, I wake up and make CHOICES on what to wear, what to eat and whether to get out of bed or not. Each day, I CHOOSE how to treat others and others also CHOOSE how to treat me. My CHOICE in 2011 is to be happy when others are not. I will CHOOSE happiness and not let their personal unhappiness to affect me. I am making the CHOICE to run at least one half marathon this year. I am also making the CHOICE to live a healthier lifestyle. I want love to shine through my CHOICES. In 2011, I want to make CHOICES that glorify God in every single thing I do. I want people to see that my CHOICES glorify God. I cannot wait to see how God will prove himself over and over in every CHOICE I make. 2011 will be full of fun adventures and I'm sure learning from my CHOICES.
Love!
